Hart’s Mortuary since 1899. Macon, Georgia

Have you ever wondered what is behind the creaky doors of the old southern mortuary?

Step inside this historic funeral home in Macon, Georgia and hear what it is like to be the director of what is usually a misunderstood establishment in Southern society.

Hart’s Mortuary was founded in 1899 by Jesse B. Hart and his brother, J. Freeman Hart. When its current location was built in 1931, it was one of the first funeral homes in the nation to have a chapel and crematory all within the same building.
