New Way of Exciting Match Play

In golf, can you understand essence of Match Play by watching it on TV? Professional players and golf commentators etc. can do but most of the audiences can’t. Difference between Stroke Play and Match is too subtle to tell. “He wins because his shots and putts are better.” All we can watch on TV is that. We can’t know physiological movements of each player and those results by watching even though good commentators explain a lot.

Do we have good example of improved sport to attract audiences? Yes. It is America’s Cup. America’s Cup has improved incredibly. What have they done? 1. Change regulation of boats to sail much faster. 2. Change sailing courses to show more competent sailing. I’m sure that Golf Match Play must improve too to be enjoyed easily.

New way is this. Players in Match Play can shoot opponent balls once in one hall except tee shot. But if those shots make balls in OB, shots are regarded as invalid, balls are put on the lie that they shot and balls will be shot normally.

This new rule makes plays incredibly complicated but very laughable for audiences and easy to empathise to watch. When we watch great shots of Mr Jordan Spieth, opponent player shoot his ball and it is moved to sand on terrible lie, many of us feel golf as exciting and audiences can laugh and shout when opponent player shoot because we can expect that terrible thing will happen soon.
