The final wing of the dragonfly, where everything comes together and you lead your audience to take action for your cause.

One thing that I have a love/hate relationship with in The Dragonfly Effect is the constant use of lists and design principles. Of course, having an easy-to-follow plan of design principles for your campaigns or organization is ideal, I find that they oversimplify some of the work. For “Take Action” the design principles are easy, fun, idiosyncratic and open.

For us, we also strive to make it easy with clear calls-to-action when possible. We always want to make sure that at the end of a blog post, or social media post, that it is clear what we want our readers to do. Should they donate? Sign up for our newsletter? We need to show them how easy it is to be involved and to take action.

We incorporate more fun challenges with our volunteers to keep them engaged. This includes volunteer challenges with prizes in February, as well as cute cards for the holidays or other special events. We hope this will encourage our volunteers to stay engaged and also bring more on board.

Idiosyncratic and being open are the final two design principles. Being open is a common theme throughout our entire strategy, as it is challenging for a non-profit to maintain support with transparency.

As our team grows and we are making time to create a proper donor journey, having personalized campaigns and impact reports are on top of our list. We want our supporters to feel their impact and know what difference they are making in the lives of families impacted by disaster and conflict around the world. We know that this will lead to further actions, hence it being a top priority.
