Let’s tackle social media marketing!

These activities from The Dragonfly Effect forces me to think more critically about my organization’s approach driving social change through social media. Clearly there is lots of work to be done, however, it is important to bear in mind the differences between the strategies outlined in this book in comparison to changes in social media.

What came up most with me in terms of my organization specifically is that we need to have a larger base of volunteers helping guide us and encouraging support. Many of these movements require the help at a grassroots level — a small staff of four people will have a challenging time communicating to our supporters and encouraging them to take action. We need help from a larger volunteer base to help drive this social change.

Of course we have reusable templates to make it easy and communicate as much as we can, we cannot oversimplify the steps to drive social change. Especially in today’s world where people are bogged down by a mass amount of information, it is posing a serious challenge for us to get our point across. Thanks to The Dragonfly Effect, I feel a bit more equipped with additional tools for social media, however, I recognize how this is a constant work in progress and we need to adapt to the changing technological environment if want to drive some serious social change.
