“And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then Jesus went from village to village, teaching the people.” ‭‭- Mark‬ ‭6:5–6‬ ‭NLT

Verse 5 states that Jesus couldn’t do some miracles because of the unbelief of the people around Him. It doesn’t say ‘wouldn’t’. It says ‘couldn’t’.

Unbelief must be incredibly powerful if it can limit the Son of God. To be clear, the power of God is only limited because of the conditions He has placed on Himself for how He will act in relation to mankind. It was God’s decision to place these limitations on Himself, but that doesn’t diminish the fact that our belief or unbelief is phenomenally powerful.

The other thing that stands out to me in this passage is that Jesus, through whom the Universe and everything in it was created, was amazed by their unbelief! Our capacity for unbelief even boggles Jesus mind!

My understanding is that pride is the only thing powerful enough to fuel such unbelief.

We need to treat pride like a nuclear weapon. Don’t pretend it isn’t there like everyone else does. Find it and get rid of it before it destroys everything.

Where is pride fueling unbelief in me?
