Really?

“And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.”” — Mark‬ ‭10:35‬ ‭ESV

Jesus has just told the disciples the terrible things that were about to happen to Him. Arrest, mocking, horrendous beating, gruesome death.

What do the brothers James & John do? Express their shock and concern for Jesus’s safety? No. They ask Jesus to give them anything they want… Really???? It’s difficult to think of a more shocking example of selfishness.

The rest of the disciples were no better. They were indignant with James & John, but not for the callous, selfish way they had disregarded the massive things Jesus had just told them. They were worried they would miss out on what the brothers had asked for!

Sounds hard to believe doesn’t it! But how often am I exactly the same, completely focused on me and my situation or priorities rather than Jesus and His incredible sacrifice and love?

The truth is — most of the time every day… How about you?
