The Aftermath (2019)

i almost always love historical fiction. i typically love a good romance. so movies that combine the two are normally my favorites. but not this time. The Aftermath left me wanting more, but not more of it.

what was the point? what was i supposed to get out of this movie? what was the climax? who was the protagonist? there is a story buried somewhere in the plot, but we don’t ever seem to get there. we don’t spend enough time with the characters to form any sort of emotional attachment to them. i felt more attached to that grand piano than anything.

does she deserve either of them?

unnecessary snowball fight. uncalled for nudity. weird teen angst unrelated to anything. long stares out windows. multiple kids shot in the head for seemingly no reason. none of this adding anything to the plot.

full of cliches and unlikable characters. besides Freda, i’m worried about Freda. she clearly doesn’t have a good head on her shoulders and her dad is busy inviting strange women to move to the Alps with them. that girl needs some guidance and to go back to school. also a new boyfriend who maybe isn’t a nazi.

i wanted to like it i really did. and it seems to have all the pieces to be likable. it just never gets there.

good luck out there, Freda. lgf.
