5 Reasons Why Tom Brady Unretired: Here’s the DL! (Updated)

In early March, the sports world went Twitter crazy when Tom Brady announced that he was unretiring from retirement. His reasons included realizing that his place is still on the field and not in the stands and that he had unfinished business with the NFL. He made this announcement three days before the official start of the 2022 offseason and just 39 days after officially retiring.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m from Boston and love living in Sportstown, where we have won 12 major sports titles since the turn of the century. I’m one of those rabid Patriots fans that wear a t-shirt that says, “Don’t Ask Me Why I’m A Patriot’s Fan, Ask Yourself Why You’re Not.” I’m also one of those fans that were pissed off when Tom left New England high and dry. Yes, he is the GOAT-after all, he did overcome being a skinny, goofy-looking sixth-round draft pick who ran the second slowest 40-yard dash of anyone at the combine the year he was drafted to winning seven Super Bowls. I like him on the field, but off the field, not so much.

So, with that in mind, here are the reasons why I think he unretired:

#1. He needs one more Super Bowl ring to equal Bill Belichik’s eight rings.

With seven, Tom has more Super Bowl rings than any other player, but Bill has more rings than anyone else in history. The chances of Brady getting that ring this season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty damned good. The Bucs’ odds to win the Super bowl increased to 10–1 from 20–1 following his unretirement. Then maybe he can win one more? Tom doesn’t want to retire until he has the MOST.

#2. His image is tarnished from the almost $1 million Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan that TB12 received, and he has to fix that because he has a movie coming out.

Tom’s retail store, TB12 sells complete home gym kits for the TB12 method fan looking to create a comprehensive home gym ($460), UnderArmour recovery sleepwear shorts that are infused with minerals that return infrared energy to your body for faster muscle recovery ($80), a wellness bundle of supplements to help you function at your best ($147), and best of all, The Big Tom, a 64 ounce, stainless steel water jug that keeps cold for 135 hours (in case you’re doing an overnight water drinking marathon regularly) and hot (for your all-nighters at work, fill it with coffee) for only $60. All these expensive goodies brought in the bucks, and the company accepted financial aid from the government. This is so egregious to so many that Dillon McMahon, a Patriots fan started a Change.org petition asking Tom to either pay back the $960,855 PPP loan or donate an equivalent sum to local small businesses suffering because of the pandemic. The petition has collected 200,000 signatures. This is not good for Tom’s image, so he needs to get on the field with some heroics so that people will forget about it in time for the premiere of his movie, ’80 for Brady.’

#3. He wants to make at least as much money as his supermodel wife, Gisele.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Gisele is worth $400 million, double her husband’s worth. She was the highest-paid supermodel at one time and has earned $500 million from endorsements. No guy with a big ego wants his wife to make more money than he does, so one or two more seasons in football, a movie in the works, and a few more endorsements might get him closer to $400 million.

#4. He needs to promote “BRADY,” his namesake apparel line.

It took him three years to develop his line of overpriced, plain, simple, and boring clothing with “Brady” written all over it. You, too, can have a t-shirt ($45) or sweatshirt ($95) and matching sweatpants ($90) with “Brady” in big letters. If he had stayed retired, how many people would want to be wearing a billboard for him on their chests? I wonder how many people want to do it now that he’s unretired?

#5. He was bored sitting at home eating avocado ice cream.

By all accounts, Tom is a family man, a great dad, and a wonderful husband. I believe that! But can you put yourself in his shoes for one minute and try to imagine how boring it is to go from being the GOAT to Mr. Mom?

And then there’s that final touchdown football that sold for $518K the day before he unretired. Maybe he wants a replay on that?

So, I went with five reasons, but Tom has done it again! Here’s another one!

#6. Bruce Arians has suddenly been moved to the front office.

It’s been announced that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach is retiring and moving to the front office as the team’s Senior Football Consultant and that defensive coordinator Ted Bowles will be replacing Arians. Do you think that this was influenced in any way by Tom’s wishes?
