Baker’s Revenge and other Late Season NFL Thoughts
So much revolves around quarterbacks.
The Broncos and Browns both took a big swing at a franchise QB in the offseason. And they both missed. Other teams were hoping young QBs would develop. That’s been a mixed bag. Other teams hoped old star quality QBS would continue to be productive. That’s been hit and miss. Let’s take a quick look at how some QB situations are sizing up for next season.
Will DeShaun Watson and Russell Wilson bounce back?
Will apologies to PETA, they may have a dead-cat bounce, but neither of their new teams will get what they hoped for. Watson looked like a guy who hasn’t played football in a couple of seasons while Russell looks like a guy who won’t be playing in a couple of years. Well, he may be playing because of his contract, not his ability.
Both the Broncos and Browns mortgaged their futures for their “franchise quarterbacks.” It will take a while to pay off that mortgage. Ironically, the Seahawks replacement for Russell Wilson, Geno Smith, has played really well.
Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett played fairly well as the Browns QB, and after a disastrous stop in Carolina, Baker Mayfield may have found new life in LA with the Rams. Both Brissett and Mayfield would have been…
