It was interesting to look back into 2021 and remember some of the athletes that stood out for good reasons and some for their poor decisions.

#10 — Jake Paul

The YouTube star-turned boxer claimed that he made over $40 million from boxing in 2021. Whether you like Paul or not — there’s no question he made an impact on the sports world in 2021.

#9 — Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is a soccer player who nearly died on the field after suffering a cardiac arrest in 2020. In 2021, the good news broke that he had resumed training after the scary incident.

#8 — Deshaun Watson

2021 included Deshaun Watson’s holdout and the accusations against him of sexual misconduct. As his legal situation clears, he will likely be traded to a new team before the 2022 season begins. Look for Watson to be one of the most googled athletes again in 2022.

#7 — Sha’Carri Richardson

Richardson was a world-class sprinter who was dropped from Team U.S.A after testing positive for marijuana. She has plans to make the Olympic team in 2024.

#6 — Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the star player for the Milwaukee Bucks and helped lead them to an NBA Championship in 2021. He was selected as GQ’s “Athlete of the Year” in 2021.

#5 — Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers marches to the beat of his own drum — which continues to land him among the most googled athletes each year. His tendency toward controversy keeps him a hot topic online.

#4 — Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr’s frustrations with Baker Mayfield and the Browns and his signing with the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams pushed him into the top five most googled athletes of 2021. OBJ proved he is still one of the most electrifying wide receivers in the NFL — when teams get him the football.

#3 — Henry Ruggs III

Henry Ruggs was charged in a November 2 car crash that killed a woman. The lady died from being burned to death in the fiery car crash. This was such a sad story about a terrible decision by Ruggs to drive drunk that cost someone their life.

#2 — Simone Biles

Simone Biles was chosen by Time magazine as their Athlete of the Year in 2021. Her approach to her mental health took center stage during the Olympics.

#1 — Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods nearly lost his right leg in a car accident at the beginning of 2021. By the end of the year, he was able to return to golf. Woods continues to overcome tremendous odds, and he is usually one of the most googled athletes.
