Location of Athens, Georgia, USA

Brent sent us a Postcard from Athens, Georgia. There are two things most people my age know about Athens, Georgia. It is the home of the rock group The B-52’s and the University of Georgia. For Brent, autumn Saturdays stand out as a critical part of life in Athens. Saturday means college football. And in Athens, college football is the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Brent describes game day when the Bulldogs are playing at home as Carnivale-like. See his note below.

According to Wikipedia, “On July 25 [1801], John Milledge, one of the trustees and later governor of Georgia, bought 633 acres (256 ha) and donated it to the university. Milledge named the surrounding area Athens after the city that was home to the academy of Plato and Aristotle in Greece.”
