I came across this article about how women in India were being mistreated and even murdered over dowry issues. So I asked Nitya to look into it from his end.

After I read his report and the original article. I am convinced this practice is not only outdated but horrific to the extreme. Please do read this all the way to the end.

This is a very grave issue that continues to afflict the lives of countless women in India — the detrimental role of dowries in fueling a femicide epidemic.

Dowry, a longstanding cultural practice in India, refers to the transfer of wealth or gifts from the bride’s family to the groom’s family at the time of marriage. Originally intended as a token of love and support for the newlyweds, dowry has sadly transformed into a system of exploitation and violence against women.
