Wherever you are, I hope that it is:

Sweeter than our newborn snuggles

Better than seeing us walk in to scoop you out of the crib

More fun than trick-or-treating with your big brother

More peaceful than reading Little Blue Truck in your blue rocking chair

Happier than laughing with your cousins and friends

Cozier than Christmas movies by the fire

More fun than wrestling your brother, dad, and both grandpas

Yummier than the muffins we licked off the spoon

More special than all of the secrets you shared with your brother

Softer than your favorite Toy Story pajamas

Faster than your green scooter beneath tall trees

More exciting than seeing Dad’s truck turn onto our street

More delicious than your favorite blue Icee

Sillier than the knock-knock joke you loved to tell

I hope that when you left us, you found only more love, more joy, more sunshine to warm your perfect face. We love you, dear H.

Heidi Young is new to grief and, to be honest, it’s not that great. She lost her son Henry, 3, suddenly and unexpectedly. She continues to save room for hope.
