Best Free Image Compression Tools For The Web
by Bradley Nice, Content Manager at ClickHelp.com — professional technical writing tool
From time to time every web designer, web developer, interface designer and even a common Internet user needs to compress and/or edit pics. The Web offers tons of free web tools for that. In this post, I’ve picked six of my favorites. Please share in the comments your favorite free tools and I’ll add them to the list!
compressor.io
Compressor.io is a powerful online tool for reducing drastically the size of your images and photos whilst maintaining a high quality with almost no difference before and after compression.
tinyjpg.com
TinyJPG reduces the file size of your JPEG images. Every uploaded image is analyzed to apply the best possible JPEG encoding. Based on the content of your image an optimal strategy is chosen. The result is a quality image without wasting storage or bandwidth!
imagecompressor.com
This online image optimizer uses a smart combination of the best optimization and lossy compression algorithms to shrink JPEG and PNG images to the minimum possible size while keeping the required level of quality.
giftofspeed.com
By using this online JPEG Compressor and Resizer you can compress your JPEG files to a much smaller file size by adjusting the quality of the image and/or resizing the image. Unfortunately, you are only able to compress one file at a time.
compressjpeg.com
This one is a pretty standard service that makes its money out of advertising. There’s very little feedback as you compress images, it gives you a percentage, and when complete tells you how much it saved as a percentage, but progress isn’t obvious which can be difficult if you’re compressing a lot of images.
tinypng.com
TinyPNG uses smart lossy compression techniques to reduce the file size of your PNG files. By selectively decreasing the number of colors in the image, fewer bytes are required to store the data. The effect is nearly invisible but it makes a very large difference in file size!
What free image compression tools do you use? Please, share in the comments and I’ll add them to the list.
Have a nice day!
