Top 5 Chrome Extensions for Writers

If your life is closely connected to writing, then you know that looking for ways to improve and boost your writing process is a part of it. If you use Chrome (or any chromium-based browsers) as your main browser, then I have good news for you. You, in fact, can do something to upgrade your process. You must know that Chrome has extensions, and pretty much of them.

I’ve chosen five of them that will help you in your writing life.

Grammarly

I bet you expected to see this tool on the list. And not without a reason I have put it here. Grammarly is a very handy app that provides an even more handy extension. It will check your writing in real time and suggest a lot of useful tips. It will look out for your grammar, spelling and more advanced stuff like use of professional jargon or passive voice. It works pretty much everywhere and will provide tips right in your text input field, whether it is a Google doc or WordPress editor.

Auto text expander

If you need to use a certain word combinations, sentences or even paragraphs, you can bind them to a certain word, and assign a shortcut for the replacement to occur. For example, ‘This is the first of its kind’ can be ‘summoned’ by just typing ‘first’ and hitting the shortcut. Yes, it’s that simple.

Basically, it’s like Text Replacement tool on iOS devices. And just like with mobile devices, it can save you tons of time, especially if you use some repeated content over and over.

OneTab

When you write, you do your research. Well, I certainly hope you do. While doing so, you might be opening dozens of tabs, which can quite quickly eat up all of your free RAM, and potentially slow down performance of your computer. Chrome is known to be memory- hungry. Solution? OneTab. It saves selected tabs so you can use them later on, which significantly reduces (up to 95%) memory usage.

StayFocused

This one is pretty much a must-have. While writing, you should be focused, but it can be with all the social networks notifications and other stuff. StayFocused let’s you block stuff you don’t want to bother you, so you can write that awesome content faster and in a more focused manner.

Evernote Web Clipper

While browsing the internet, even when not writing an article, you can find some interesting and insightful stuff that you might want to use later in your articles. But how do you save VARIOUS content into one place? Well, you use Evernote Web Clipper. It allows you to grab screenshots, web pages or selected text and save it for reviewing later. Very handy!
