Sometimes they don’t do anything. But sometimes they harm a little. Look at your apps list and you’ll probably see one or two of these.

1.Flash Player and other outdated stuff

Once upon a time, web pages needed plugins like Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight or the like, but most of these have been replaced by HTML5. Flash support will end in 2020, Silverlight — 2021. Because they will no longer be supported, they can be a security threat.

2.CCleaner and other “cleaners”

I know a lot of people that can’t imagine their life without these cleaners. But they don’t do anything Disk Cleanup can’t do. If you didn’t read my latest article on those, go ahead and check it out!

3.Preinstalled software

Laptops are especially notorious for being packed with preinstalled software. But quite often, there is no use in this software. It either does the same thing windows native utilities can, or have much, much better alternatives.

4.Default Microsoft Store apps

There are quite a lot of preinstalled (not necessarily pre-downloaded) apps Microsoft wants you to use. Maps, Weather, OneNote, News, even XBox and Minecraft… Do you need all of these? Go through your app list and delete everything that you don’t think you’ll use.

5.Internet Explorer

Should I even clarify this? If you’re using Internet Explorer, then you probably reading this article in 1998. Seriously, there are tons of great alternatives, go ahead and choose something for yourself!

As for deleting it, open up Windows Features, and look for Internet Explorer 11. Then disable it and apply changes. With Edge, it’s a bit more complicated, so if you really want it disabled, I suggest you google it — it’s quite a “hacky” way.

Have a nice day!
