When it comes to web design, SEO, UX and UI, there are lots of bad practices that are made fun of all around the web. A colleague of mine gathered a quick list of most annoying things in his opinion that I provide further. He also offered me to ask for your help and gather all the most common bad practices in one place. So please, guys, take a look at the list, share your opinion in the comments and I’ll add more bad practices to the list!

SEO

  • It takes longer than 5-seconds to load
  • Poor use of URLs (website.com/345_ad instead of website.com/contact_us)
  • Poor or no use of <title> tag
  • Content duplication (within the site or copied&pasted from another website)
  • Not relevant website content
  • Use of broken links

DESIGN

  • Users can’t tell that what your company does upon seeing the website and its header (poor information architecture)
  • Clashing colors or excessive number of colors
  • Excessive number of fonts
  • Not tested for multiple browsers
  • Not user-friendly
  • Inconsistent design

USABILITY

  • Spelling errors
  • Difficult to find contact info
  • No clear call-to-action

UI & UX

  • Not optimized for mobile devices
  • Annoying pop-ups
  • Difficult to navigate
  • Auto-playing music and/or video
  • Your site has lists that span multiple pages with one list item per page and 58 ads (by Rick Calder)

What are the most annoying things on the website? Please, share in the comments and I’ll add them to the list. Let’s compile the longest list of things, that make websites suck!

Have a nice day!
