When your work aligns with your values, it’s easier to stay motivated and engaged. Understanding these values is the first step in designing a career path that works for you. Clear values make it easier to shape your work environment, clarify expectations with coworkers, set boundaries.

When it comes to your career, what do you want? It’s a seemingly simple question but many people struggle to find a clear answer.

Values are what you care about. Knowing what you care about will help you make more strategic career-related decisions.

The following is a list of common values. It’s up to you to define each value as makes sense given your personal situation. Read through it and identify which values matter to you. It’s also helpful to identify values that you definitely don’t want. Avoid making assumptions about values and instead focus on choosing your values based on experience.
