How I made over $500 online!
Using Fiverr.com an Online Marketplace.
Yes, seriously! I have actually made $500 (£300) online, I’m not going to try and scam you or sell anything. I achieved this using Fiverr.com an online marketplace, where you can buy and sell many different services all for $5.
I signed up for Fiverr almost 2 years ago now, when the service first started to become popular. I have never done any freelance work before, so after having a quick think about what service I could offer, I decided on writing reviews, more specifically app reviews. Since then, I have written over 100 reviews of free and paid apps for my clients. The most popular being iOS reviews.
When I started off, I didn’t really know what to expect. So I just created a fairly professional looking ‘Gig’ as they are called, and just waited for an email to say I had an order. Then a while later, one did! I quickly downloaded and reviewed the app, and had my first happy customer. From then on, the more positive reviews I received the more popular my Gigs became. They now have a very high conversion rate of over 20%, which I think is quite impressive.
I know $500 isn’t much, if you consider the time frame but I am not a professional, I’ve never done any freelance work and didn’t do any marketing whatsoever! Anyway, who wouldn’t want an extra $500?
So, what actually is Fiverr?
It’s a global online marketplace, where you can buy many different products and services all starting from just $5. It was launched in 2010 by Shai Wininger, Micha Kaufman and quickly became very popular, it currently offers over 3 million different services.
All of the services are called ‘Gigs’ and they can literally be anything, as long as there are people willing it pay a fiver for it! Currently, featured on the front page there are gigs offering:
I will model your merchandise or hold your sign for $5
I will be your video spokesperson on Green Screen for $5
I will create you a Responsive Email Newsletter for your Business or Personal Use for $5
I will debug your JavaScript or jQuery coding for $5
I will design Resume for you for $5
The possibilities are endless! If you have a unique idea, that you could offer I would definitely recommend offering your own Gig.
Ok, but what is the catch?
Well, obviously Fiverr have to make money so they take a $1 fee from each sale. So when you sell a Gig for $5, you actually only get paid $4. But they do now offer Gig Extra’s which allow you to have addons for your Gig, so you can offer a more premium service and have a more premium price tag.
