#2 Sustainability

Hospitality is such a special industry in that many of us are reliant upon the beauty and diversity of the planet for our business. Travelers are drawn to the world’s beauty spots to relax, energize and take in the majesty of natural wonders. I believe the attraction is innate, irresistible and restorative — which is why I am confident that our industry will rebound from the shock of this pandemic.

LG, like many of our customers and indeed fellow manufacturers, believes we have a shared responsibility to protect our planet for future generations. Our commitment to sustainability ensures that we strive for minimal environmental impact while staying faithful to the values of our customers, business partners, employees and communities.

As such, we have rigorous sustainability initiatives in place so that we achieve our sustainability goals and to enable you to achieve your objectives. Our programs cover the production, packaging and shipping of our products; how those products perform from a sustainability standpoint and also how those products are recycled at end of life. There is not a moment in the product lifecycle that we do not look at and carefully examine the environmental impact on energy efficiency, pollution, raw material usage and human welfare.

I am personally very proud of LG’s track record in sustainability. It started back in 1994 with an LG’s Environment Proclamation to minimize the effects of our operations on the environment and also to enhance customer value through the development of greener products. Since then, we have implemented ISO processes on our manufacturing; developed Eco Design software; were awarded the EU Ecolabel Flower and the Korea Eco-Labe; founded a Hazardous Substance Analysis Laboratory; established a company-wide Eco Technology Committee; implemented take-back initiatives; hosted the Dubai International Environment Conference and, most significantly, reduced greenhouse gas emissions in pre-production by 150,000 tons and emissions in post-production by 30,000,000 tons!

In addition to the internal programs we implement, we also partner with third-parties to ensure we are aligned with our clients in hospitality. Studies have shown that today’s guests actively seek healthier travel experiences that align with their healthy life choices, and so, for example, we work with the MindClick to examine our supply chains and certify our hospitality televisions to support guest health, minimize a property’s environmental footprint and to positively, demonstrably impact the global community.

Coming from a small rural town, I have always appreciated the inter-dependence we have with the environment, and sustainability is something I’ve actively pursued in my life. This is why LG is such a good fit for me and why many of our hospitality customers agree that LG is an excellent fit for them, their businesses and the next generation of travelers.
