“DADDY,” by Gerald McCullouch and Dan Via, is a new LGBT film based on the hit play of the same name.

With just a handful of fund-raising days remaining as of this writing, the film’s co-creators find themselves motivated and inspired to share queer culture from a rarely hyped and all too common perspective: can we get a #WOOF WOOF from all the silver foxes, cougar dudes, papa bears and DADDIES out there?

Thank you!

Read on to learn more about a project that promises to deliver an intriguing, sexy, fun and poignant film.

FTM Health: Please tell our readers a bit about the play that started it all.

Gerald McCullouch: DADDY premiered in NYC a few years ago to pretty crazy acclaim and then transferred to LA where it also had insane critical praise. It’s a really beautiful story about two life long best friends and the life changing events that happen when one of them falls in love with a much younger man.

FTM Health: What sparked the idea for writing the screenplay and going the indie route?

Gerald McCullouch: Once the play moved from NYC to LA it was always my intention to tell this story on film. It’s such a unique and mature story with such political resonance about friendship and family and the dire consequences of the things left unsaid. How could that not be a story I want to tell on film? This story excites me like nothin’ else. And most films with gay protagonists end up going the indie route, so it’s the path we’re on. It’s kinda’ how the ball bounces.

FTM Health:“Older than 40,” in some queer circles, is hella old. Mind-boggling when you think of Allen Ginsburg, at the very least!

How does DADDY speak to ageism in the LGBTQ community? Have we made any advances about this idea, of late, in-community?

Gerald McCullouch: Well, love is love. And I think society is evolving immensely and with that evolution comes an awareness and an acceptance of the diverse forms of love. But the older man/much younger love interest has been part of society forevs. I mean, look at the Greeks. And how long have we been saying “Who’s your daddy”? Or singing songs like “Hey, Daddy, I want a diamond ring”. I mean hello, look at Santa. Talk about a mass cultural DADDY complex.

FTM Health: Do you think “silver foxes” are more accepted, say, in BDSM circles?

Gerald McCullouch: Ask George Clooney what those letters mean, cause you lost me there, and get back to me.

FTM Health: Your reviews for the play are quite extraordinary: as for the filmic version, I take it we can we count on even more romance? Intrigue? Seduction…?

Gerald McCullouch: I am so proud of the progress Dan Via, the writer, and my co-star, has made in his filmic adaptation of his story. And I think the film will inevitably be more powerful than the play every had the potential to be. And the play was pretty freakin’ powerful.

FTM Health: Anything else you’d like to share about this production and perks, goodies and rewards for supporting it?

Gerald McCullouch: Well, we have less than 7 days to complete our funding goal on Kickstarter. With Kickstarter, if you don’t reach your goal, you don’t receive and of the earned donations. It’s all or nothing. These Kickstarter funds complete our budget so reaching our goal is dire to this film moving forward. So I’m pretty much on my knees to the mass public begging for whatever kind of contribution they can make towards getting this story told and making this movie. And being part of a snazzy family like ‘Daddy’ is going to be an amazing experience.

There is a variety of rewards for people’s involvement and they’ll be along for the entire journey of the film. From pre production to production to post production to the world wide film festival circuit and on and on. It’ll be an unforgettable journey.

So, why would you not want to come on board? Right? Life’s short. Support art. Get stories told. Give DADDY a kick! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/582879254/daddy-a-new-film-based-on-the-hit-play

FTM Health: Thanks again for your time, and congratulations on your transition to the big screen!

Gerald McCullouch: You rock. Thanks so much for the opportunity. And follow DADDY on Twitter! @DaddyTheMovie

Yeah, this writer went for the saucy questions and the DADDY team was purely a class act. You’ve got to love and respect that–we do!
