I am sure a majority of you reading this are aware of what a food truck is. I mean, the definition is in the name. The food truck has become a trend in Los Angeles over the last 10 years because of the large variety of food they offer.

Los Angeles is addicted to anything and everything trending. If something is considered “cool” it doesn’t take long for a majority of people to participate. First Fridays is a trend that has yet to die down. It all began 10 years ago when a Venice native decided to start an event that would help boost the small businesses that reside on the infamous Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

This event provided low-cost advertising and encouraged visitors to walk the boulevard, checking out both the food trucks and businesses. In the beginning, only a handful of people would attend, just enough to crowd the sidewalks. Today, this unique First Fridays event is visited by hundreds of people, all gathering to enjoy the food truck fare.

On the first Friday of every month, Abbot Kinney becomes the hottest tourist attraction on the Westside. The food trucks occupy both sides of the street with lines of 10+ per truck. Not only has this attracted the locals, but foodies from all over the country. Businesses and start-ups have flocked from all over the U.S. to find a place on Abbot Kinney, whether a food truck or retail store, to be a part of this lucrative event.

There is no such thing as “common” food when it comes to food trucks. They provide all types of food with their own little twist. You can find a grilled cheese truck with cheeses and breads that you have never heard of in your life. You can have a slice of pizza and walk 10 steps left to find some of the best Persian food you have ever tasted.

If you are in Los Angeles as a resident or a visitor, I highly recommend experiencing First Fridays. You have the opportunity to meet a variety of people and eat an even larger variety of foods.

When is it, you may ask? First. Fridays. There you go.
