Our second edition of “Neighborhood Spotlight” features another hidden gem, Hancock Park. One of the most luxurious and historic areas in all of Los Angeles, this neighborhood is located in the Central LA vicinity, bordering Hollywood (North) and Mid-Wilshire (South).

Hancock Park consists of multiple sub-neighborhoods, all with their own style; Larchmont Village, Hancock Park, and Windsor Square. Originally developed in the 1920’s by the Hancock family, these storied mansions have housed Hollywood Icons and Los Angeles royalty. Mae West, Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, Muhammed Ali, Nat King Cole, Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas and the Founders of Los Angeles, Dorothy Buffum Chandler and Norman Chandler have all called this neighborhood home.

With it’s lush landscape, rich history and stunning architecture, Hancock Park continues to attract families, celebrities and the Los Angeles elite, making Hancock Park one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

Home Prices:

With a median home price of $1,500,000 and median rental price of $6,000 per month, Hancock Park ranks #26 on the list of most expensive communities in Los Angeles.

What To Do:

With desirable neighborhoods comes amazing dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Here are our top spots in Hancock Park:

Larchmont’s Farmers Market: Everyone loves themselves a good Sunday farmers market, but none compare to Larchmont’s. Every Sunday from 10am-2pm vendors and residents crowd the city parking lot on Larchmont Boulevard. This market offers an endless variety of farm-to-table food and handwoven clothing from some of the most amazing vendors known to man. There is nothing better!

Prado: This Caribbean eatery provides delicious food and an electric environment. With a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, you are able to enjoy the atmosphere any time of year.

Café Gratitude: Yes it is called Gratitude! To understand why, all you have to do is look at the menu. With menu items named “Gracious”, “Bright”, and “Dazzling” it won’t take long see the motivation behind the business. Café Gratitude welcomes all health-nuts to come enjoy their amazing “Facon” (fake bacon).

Genwa Korean BBQ: Mass quantities of raw meat that you cook on your own at your table? What can possibly go wrong? I am kidding of course. Genwa offers an amazing meal with fun on top. Their quality of meat is known to be some of the best in Los Angeles. If you are like me and enjoy a teriyaki flavor, order the Bulgogi. Oh, and make sure you bring a group because you WON’T finish your meal on your own.

Schools:

Hancock Park / Mid-Wilshire is zoned LAUSD and assigned to the following schools:

Helen Bernstein High, Van Ness Avenue Elementary, Third Street Elementary, Wilshire Crest Elementary, Queen Anne Place Elementary, Wilshire Park Elementary, Vine Street Elementary, Charles H. Kim Elementary, John Burroughs Middle, Hubert Howe Bancroft, Joseph Le Conte, Fairfax Senior High, Los Angeles Senior High.

My recommendation is to just get out and experience for yourself all that these areas have to offer. If you are interested in the rich history and culture of Los Angeles, Hancock Park should be on the top your list of places to visit.
