This blog will be the first in a series of posts, highlighting neighborhoods around Los Angeles that may go unnoticed to both residents and visitors. Every week we will select a neighborhood that we feel is not only a great place to live, but also a great investment.

Our first neighborhood is a small community located within the lovely city of Santa Monica. This community is called Sunset Park. With Snapchat’s recent relocation to Santa Monica from Venice, I felt this would be a great area to kick off this series of neighborhood spotlights.

Sunset Park is located between Pico Boulevard and Dewey Street (North/South) and Lincoln Boulevard and Centinela Avenue (East/West). For those who are unfamiliar with those streets, it is the surrounding areas of the Santa Monica Airport and Santa Monica College’s main campus.

Things to do in Sunset Park:

Food:

In Sunset Park, food is not a problem. You are within walking distance to an endless amount of restaurants. For example, if you are feeling Italian food, Vito and Local Wine Bar & Kitchen is the place to go. If you are more of an Indian food-lover, then you will find yourself at Tandoor-India (their chicken tikka is my favorite dish). With endless amounts of restaurants lining Pico and Ocean Park you are bound to find your favorite grub spot.

Schools:

With the property ratios favoring single family homes versus condominiums/apartment, it is likely that you and your neighbors will have children. This means that the local school district is a major deciding factor when considering moving to the neighborhood. Sunset Park is affiliated with both Santa Monica-Malibu and Los Angeles Unified School Districts, which are two of the best public school districts in all of Los Angeles County.

Nightlife:

Everyone needs to let loose every once and a while and for those of you who don’t like to venture far from home, Sunset Park may be the area for you. Sunset Park offers a variety of fun venues, making it is almost impossible to have a bad time. If you are looking for good food, great drinks, and entertainment, my go-to spot is Speak Easy Cocktail. Nothing beats cheap beer and great happy hour deals! If you are someone who enjoys listening to live music, then TRiP is your kind of place. Long story short, there are tons of great venues for all interests and best of all, they are local!

Real Estate:

With Los Angeles property values continuing to rise and mortgage interest rates still at historic lows, now is a great time to buy. Sunset Park delivers the Santa Monica/Venice lifestyle, without the insane prices. With average property values under two million, it is still possible to find amazing deals. If you prefer renting, there are also great rental options. Sunset Park has a strong rental market, 57% of all residents currently rent, while 43% of residents own.

Snapchat:

Snapchat relocating their Los Angeles offices from Venice to Santa Monica will have a major impact on the residents of Sunset Park. Being a major employer in a very lucrative industry, this move will attract many new residents to the area. The increase in demand will drive up property values and rents, making a purchase in this area a great investment. We expect as Snapchat settles in, the value of property per square foot will begin to climb.

With projections of tremendous property value appreciation, there is no better time to make the move!

We will be posting a series of these articles weekly, to provide insight into hidden neighborhoods of Los Angeles. If you are curious about a certain area and would like to know more about it, please let us know! You can reach us via phone or email at (323) 746–4554 / Home@LHspaces.com.
