“They Knew Israel Would React This Way”
But wait. ..under International Law, self -defence by an occupied people is a right
This is part of The Collapse of Zionism collection.
Another popular yet completely baffling argument is: Hamas knew that Israel would overreact, therefore it is Hamas’s fault.
That’s an astonishing bit of sophistry.
This is on par with the “she shouldn’t have worn such a short skirt” logic of sexual abusers and rapists, or the “she knew it would make me angry” that wife-beaters favour.
It completely divests Israel of all responsibility for its actions and behaviour, of course. But it’s also an extension of the dominant, zero-sum, imperial attitude that created the Palestinian Resistant movement in the first place.
Remember: Hamas wouldn’t exist were it not for Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.
What’s more ironic is that it actually compounds the now universal belief that Israel is a volatile, irrational, belligerent, dangerous state — incapable of controlling or moderating itself, and determined to make others pay for its actions.
Truthfully, it is Israel who has fucked around for far too long, and in the arena of global opinion, it is truly finding out: the billions of dollars in lost income by say, Starbucks, is one indicator of the might of the common people… the exodus of Israelis leaving for a less volatile, safer place to live, is another.
