It’s Time to Reclaim Your Data
By now, we’re all well aware that free online services come at a cost — our privacy. Companies like Amazon, Google and Facebook, gather our personal details, as well as data about what we consume and create online, and sell it to advertisers. Basically, unless you choose to become a digital hermit, your data will be used by marketers.
Here’s where Liberdy enters the picture. We believe that it’s time to finally redress the balance. An entire $230 billion USD a year industry is driven by your personal data. The information is already being used by marketers, so why shouldn’t you get a slice of the pie? After all, it’s your data!
What can Liberdy do?
Liberdy has created a completely revolutionary, new, fairer digital advertising economy. We have developed an advertising Data Management Platform (DMP), based on blockchain technology, that rewards users for the use advertisers make of their data.
To achieve this, Liberdy is harnessing the power of blockchain and a new EU bill, the GDPR. The GDPR states that as of May 2018, the user is the rightful owner of his or her personal information. All online businesses collecting user data must make a copy available, free of charge, in an electronic format. This essentially means that the data that is so critical to the multi-billion-dollar advertising industry, which is projected to grow by 16.5% in 2018 alone, belongs to you. By reclaiming that data, you will become an equal partner in the online advertising ecosystem for the very first time.
Companies like Facebook, and Amazon already have your search history. Amazon knows which products you’ve explored, giving them an idea of your shopping preferences, Facebook can get to know your interests based on the pages you like, and so on. Basically, even though this data was generated on their sites, the GDPR guarantees your right to information that relates to you. You can gain to access it and start make money when you share it with advertisers. Since up to now these online companies have used your data and payed nothing in return, what do you have to lose?
Don’t worry you don’t have to start making calls to Instagram’s support center to request a copy of your data. In fact, it couldn’t be simpler. Simply download the app and do a short onboarding process where you pick which information you wish to share. No technical know-how is needed. We’ll take it from there and you can just focus on earning from your data.
Here are examples of the data Facebook and Google collect on us and is available for you to download:
The data, which you are already sharing with the likes of Google and Amazon is extracted to our DMP. Since each transaction is recorded on the blockchain it is visible to all parties and you, the true owner of the data, benefit from a transparent permission-based ad marketplace. But don’t worry, we will not share any personal information, only non-identify information will be used.
So, how does it work?
Users will manage their data using the Liberdy app, which extracts, verifies and uploads their information. To share data from a specific source, e.g. Google, Twitter, Instagram, or Amazon, the user simply clicks the relevant button.
The app also acts as a wallet that manages tokens, balance and rewards.
Liberdy keeps record of data that was shared and the time it was shared on the blockchain. Every time the advertiser makes a data purchase, an update is sent directly to you and your balance is updated using smart contracts.
Users will earn LIB Coin, the cryptocurrency powering the network, for the sharing and use of their data. They will also be able to use it to purchase products from brands using the platform. In addition, if, for example, you buy shoes from a Liberdy advertiser you will get cash back on your purchase.
