I think people take the wrong lesson from the Amazon deal. The giant subsidy from New York is large because government taxes and regulates so much to begin with.

In New York to survive almost every business has to qualify for some sort of program to get relief from taxes and regulations. The problem isn’t Amazon, it’s New York who takes so much as the status quo everyone has to play politics to survive this damn state.

If a state was low tax and low reg, they’d still be an economically better place to be located without subsidies than New York with subsidies.

Let’s foster an environment where business can just be business and not be asked or tempted to be political actors.
