Five Things Men Believe That Defy Logic
These familiar narratives fall apart if you dare to look closely…
When I was in my late thirties, I went through a brutal breakup that had an unexpected benefit: it caused me to start questioning everything.
My curiosity began close to home, leading me to wonder why it was so common for men to leave a long-term relationship in order to establish a new one with a much younger woman. Or why I always felt so much pressure to put a boyfriend first even though men are not encouraged to do the same for their female partners.
It was like picking at a loose bit of yarn dangling from the hem of an old sweater. A few tugs and the whole thing came unraveled.
Everything I had been taught about men and women began to seem so arbitrary, so shallow. I couldn’t find any research that corroborated all these “truths” I had been fed all my life. And more to the point, none of them even seemed logical when examined more thoroughly.
These questions became a favorite source of inspiration in my writing. I loved sharing what I was learning and enjoyed the process of dismantling all this propaganda.
