Don’t blame yourself — this wasn’t about you, at all
Is it just me or does he pop into your head every time there’s a lunar eclipse? The one you loved you so much. The one who repaid your devotion by leaving you for a 20-year-old.
Yeah, that one.
But don’t be sad, ladies. And no shame, either.
That man was miserable.
He was raised in a culture that forced him to ignore any display of humanity in order to seem as powerful as possible. He was taught that women are accessories, sexual playmates, and social currency, to be upgraded at every possible opportunity.
And he was made to believe that all of this would make him happy.
Women already understand that this isn’t a recipe for joy, but for misery. Perhaps doubly so, because we all know what it feels like to follow a shitty script to the letter and still not get the payoff we were promised. It’s a loss in every way.
But they don’t figure it out for a long time. Some of them never do.
Women often don’t get it, either — especially not when we’re living through it. We blame ourselves. We feel ashamed. Deficient.
