Hitting Rock Bottom Is Not Necessarily What You Think It Is
This is my horror story
What is Rock Bottom?
Do you, like I used to, think that when you heard someone had hit rock bottom due to drink or drugs, assumed their addiction caused them to lose their, job, their relationship, their house… or even all 3?
I had visions of people at rock bottom ending up living homeless and attending soup kitchens. Forced into rehab to ‘dry out’ or detox to get their life back.
It’s only from my personal experience and conversations with my sober buddies that although this is true for some, there is a hell of a lot of us that had a completely different experience of rock bottom.
In some cases, it is one singular event.
Secret Drinker
My story is that I was quite happily drinking away. Merlot was my poison. Not one single person thought I had an alcohol problem. I own my own house, held down a decent job, and have a great group of friends and family around me.
I secretly knew I was drinking too much. It was my treat, my source of relaxation, by the end it was my friend. I never got anywhere near the point that I would consider rock bottom.
But rock bottom happened to me.
