A Common Bond
A new song…
To stare you straight in the eye
No understanding, no harmony
Something alien now I find
My despair, gazing back at me
Struggle and strain for release
Once we walked a path of hope
Left now to grope in the rain
In memory of our brothers slain
Blown out of our hearts and our minds
Conscience in darkness and decline
Black rain turns crystalline
Rays of light beginning to shine
A leap of faith for all to heed
Acceptance of my brother and me
No center, seams torn and frayed
A common bond in disarray
No common goal, no mystery
No common decency to plead
In the end consumed by greed
Battered souls fail to connect
All we forget, deeper we go
We bury our virtues in a hole
A hollow death six feet cold
No seeds to spread or to sow
We flood to the ocean and dive
Release to the flow of our minds
Refracted currents that pull us away
In these shallows safe we can play
Dance of the universe at play
All we’ve touched forever remains
Sailing with or without the wind
Heavenly forces starting to spring
Pointing fingers, casting blame
Filling our hearts with shame
Fake leaders playing on fear
Stealing cheers for power’s sake
Fear morphs to anger, anger to hate
Once we walked through forests green
Rays of the sun burst through the trees
Now we roam a desert on our knees
Last whispers lost in white heat
Separation and polarity
We who choose to be who we are
Shaping our lives, healing our scars
To be a light back to the source
To be a force to reach for the stars
To be an agent of hope and change
Through innocence new bonds to create
In each moment of peace we are free
In each act of kindness so shall it be
Life springs up to a new dawn
Daybreak lights us up all around
We can be one with all mankind
One with our planet, with all of life
Turning back for the storm clouds forming
All we can see is a rainbow spanning
The blue heavens and our lives
Home again, hearts divine
Crashing waves return to the sea
A new light shines through, to you and me
No us and them, no duality
This world runs through you and me
A soul lights up, a light for all to see
Tonight we act, for all that is free
