Ready, Set, GO — carwow Olympics 2017
On Friday 18th August 2017, carwow hosted a company-wide Olympics. This was the third in our history and certainly not the last.
Why host an Olympics?
At the rapid pace at which we are growing, it is key for us to stay true to our values as well as one another. The idea behind this event is to encourage and strengthen our employees’ relationships across all departments… and to have a lot of fun!
Team Spirit
Prior to the official game day we were split into groups, giving people the chance to mix and mingle within the wider team. Account managers were mixing with developers, designers, customer service champions, marketing managers and interns alike.
Once split up, teams were instructed to come up with both a creative team name and a costume to match. This year’s theme was “Things you find at carwow.” Below you can get a sense of what that meant…

Game time
The day commenced with a feeling of both excitement and weather-induced anxiety. Rain teased us throughout the morning but we remained hopeful.
Bernice, our office manager, and the trusty Olympics squad, spent all morning preparing Lincoln Inn Fields (the park behind our office) to ensure it was fully equipped for what the afternoon had in store.
Despite our hopes and wishes that the (literal) storm would pass, as everyone was gearing up to head on out, the heavens opened.
That didn’t stop us and we quickly got everything and everyone inside. And so commenced the makeshift games inside the office.
With only a slight delay in our schedule, we were off! Below you can see some of the various heats each team participated in.

Tie breaker
After two hours of intense competition, it was time to announce the winners, which resulted in a three-way draw at first place. This meant only one thing: musical statues.
Competing in the tie-breaking event, three teams gathered centre stage: Bella’s Ballerina’s, Turk’s Titans and ‘Snowed yesterday now sunny so perfect’.

Fighting all the way to the finish line, “So Perfect” Team took home the most sought after prize of the evening: First Place.
