To celebrate Latinx Heritage Month 2022, Chimigos — the Chime Resource Group (CRG) for Chimers to learn about the Latin American experience — put together a host of events and partnerships to inspire and educate Chimers, as well as allow Chimigos members to share their unique experiences and backgrounds.

In keeping with every cultural heritage month at Chime, Chimigos established a north star to follow for all events, programming, and content: The Latinx community is a tapestry of diverse cultures that have contributed to art, culture and society in the United States. The pandemic has affected minority populations disproportionately, but our communities are powerful and resilient, and Chimigos will be highlighting the fighting spirit in order to inspire and uplift.

Here’s a look at the eventful programming they produced, as well as the local Latinx-owned businesses they highlighted throughout the month. We hope you all feel as inspired as we did!

The cultural connection of food

Food is one of the most enjoyed and celebrated parts of Latinx heritage, so we decided to highlight Latinx food and drink throughout the month with in-person and at home events.

We kicked the month off with an in-person happy hour featuring a Mariachi band and Mexican-inspired cocktails and dinner at our San Francisco headquarters.

Our Workplace Experience team partnered with several local vendors for pop-ups at the office during the month, including San Francisco-based Snackería de la Mission and La Victoria Panadería.

Later on in the month, Chimigos hosted a Chime Cooks Chimichurri virtual event, where Chimers were invited to prepare chimichurri together at home (with ingredients sent ahead of time!).

Finally, we hosted an in-person tasting event at our San Francisco office featuring a local Mexican-American family owned vineyard, Ceja Vineyards.

Having fun with games

“Loteria is a popular Mexican board game similar to bingo,” explains Janice Vela. “Instead of using numbers, squares are ‘crossed off’ when a card featuring a drawing and the corresponding word is drawn.”

Not only did Chimers get to learn a few Spanish words over several rounds of Loteria (both online and in-person), we provided our in-person players with Paletas from the Paleta Factory in Chicago!

Career growth

We invited Chimers to gather for a session on how to steer your career led by Alan Stein, who started Kadima Careers, a coaching platform aimed at helping underrepresented talent land jobs in tech. A nearly-three-decade leadership veteran of Google, Meta (Facebook), Salesforce, and American Express, Alan shared his advice on how to accelerate Chimers’ careers — stay tuned for a recap of his talk in two weeks!

Creative assets for Chimers to show their pride, love, and support for the Latinx community

We believe in sharing our support for fellow Chimers, so we partnered with the design team to create several Zoom and LinkedIn backgrounds to honor Latinx heritage month.
