When Chime hit its inflection point in member growth, we decided it was time to power up our growth engine. That involved a lot of things, but core to our growth — and central to much of Chime’s success — are the people who make up our team. We call them Chimers.

When our growth started to take off, we looked at where we could expand (geographically speaking). We were drawn to Canada because moving into another country would give us access to diverse perspectives, new talent and open up our hiring capabilities.

We chose Vancouver because it has an existing talent market due to tech heavy hitters who have been there for years (and many who have recently arrived on the scene), it’s close to San Francisco, and it’s in the same time zone. We had a theory: that we would find great talent in Vancouver. So we set out to test it.

We partnered with the folks over at Terminal, who have a great history of hiring top Vancouver talent for companies without an office in Vancouver. We started to build out our team, and before long, we knew Vancouver would be our next office — our theory had proven correct. So we set out to incorporate in Canada, learned the local lingo, and made all of our Vancouver employees full-time Chimers.

Our Vancouver team is built on the same values and principles that all of Chime is based upon. We see Vancouver as a wonderful opportunity to continue growing our world-class team, be part of a thriving tech ecosystem, and continue to build something great.

The team in Vancouver comprises ~20 developers and an engineering manager, all of whom work on mission critical projects across Chime — we’re not building a satellite office that works on its own project. Every Chimer, regardless of location, works cross-functionally with other Chimers on the projects that are best suited to their skillset and where they can have the most impact.

We couldn’t be more excited about building our team in Vancouver and the existing foundation we’ve laid there. Our team there is mission-driven, values-aligned, and in it for the long haul (meet Steve Mynett and Chris Yammine on our blog). We’re focused on building a culture of kindness, hard — and great — work, and balance as we tackle the challenges that come at this stage of our growth. Our member base is growing, and our opportunity is bigger than ever before. We’re scaling every part of our company, and for that — you guessed it — we’re hiring in Vancouver.
