‘‘Five years ago, I thought I would be wearing steel-capped boots and a yellow hard hat and working as a civil engineer on the construction site of a cool long-span bridge in Hong-Kong. And yet here I am today. Life has a funny way of taking you exactly where you need to be.‘‘

Where She Started

These are words from our very own Head of Agile, Franziska (Sissi) Reutter. Sissi has had an incredible journey full of ups and downs that have allowed her to grow in her career and become a happier version of herself. After first pursuing a career in mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, she made the switch to study Civil Engineering. Post graduation, Sissi moved to Abu Dhabi for an immersive experience in the field. Over the first 2 years of her career she was able to design and build everything from beautiful bridges to an innovative new sewage system for a whole city. ‘’Meeting with architects and coming up with innovative designs and solutions were one of my favorite parts in my position.‘‘ This love of working with people ultimately was the driving force that led her to Freeletics.

Journey to Freeletics

After years of working as a civil engineer and later as a management consultant, Sissi by chance encountered a press feature in German media outlet, Gründerszene about Freeletics. As she was looking to diversify her career, Sissi soon applied for her first position at the company and never looked back.

As in many start-ups, her role was vague and not clearly defined during the first few months with the company. ‘‘My first title-change happened before my first day. This was challenging because neither me nor anyone around me was able to put their finger on what I was meant to be doing. At the same time, this was a great opportunity for me; I set off trying to understand the organisation and coming up with what I thought would be a good way to invest my time for the company.‘‘ Six months later, her Business Operations Department was restructured and she started working closely with Daniel Sobhani, CEO of Freeletics. The new role helped her gain both first hand exposure and valuable experience around running a successful business.

Today, Sissi serves as Head of Agile. She collaborates closely with Chief Product and Technology Officer, Kornelius Brunner, and is responsible for leading a team of scrum masters as well as change management, planning and analysis processes and improving execution and effectivity of the whole organsation.

‘‘Looking back, it’s incredible for me to be able to pinpoint the individual conversations and moments that determined my career.‘‘ Sissi comments. ‘‘Talking to people, understanding what they do, getting feedback on my own strengths and weaknesses and just being curious about the world opens up opportunities every day. And then it is up to you to choose which one to jump on.‘‘

Looking Ahead

Looking to the future, Sissi is determined to make an even greater impact on the Freeletics App and the organization as a whole. “I feel incredibly proud to be working for an organisation that has such a positive impact on people’s lives”. She bases her mindset not on making concrete plans that are bound to shift, but rather on continuing to learn and contributing to the environment around her. “I guess I have always had quite an agile approach to my own career”. Luckily, her Freeletics journey is not yet over. Her curious spirit and passion about the company will no doubt take her to places she‘s never imagined.
