From Retail Banker to Customer Success Manager: This is Sylvain‘s Journey

Where he Started

Like all of our awesome employee journey stories before, Sylvain‘s is also full of twists and turns. When asked the question where he thought he would be today, five years ago, his answer was very insightful. “Back then, my life was totally different. I I was still living in the south of France, was working in a Bank, hanging out with friends from my studies, and had never considered moving to Germany. At that point in my life, I was convinced that I would spend the next few years working and living in the same environment without any major change.” After graduating in Retail Banking, Sylvain gained his first professional sales experience in a bank close to Aix en Provence. “It was a small agency of 3 people and the mood was really good there. It was great to directly interact with the customers and to help them in their requests and projects. In this role, I started to develop my communication and commercial negotiation skills.” During his 8 years working as Front Office Agent and later as a Client Advisor at the bank, Sylvain was presented with an opportunity to move to Munich. Although he did not know what lay ahead, he decided to take the plunge.

With his expertise in client and guest relations, Sylvain started to work part time in a hotel at the heart of the city. Here he had his first exposure to living in Bavaria and began learning German. It was the perfect change of pace he was craving. “After one year, I was more confident and started looking for the next challenge.” Sylvain recalls. “This is when I discovered Freeletics and saw the open position for the Customer Engagement (CE) team. They were looking for French natives to communicate with the French speaking app users. Now was my chance. Instead of applying online, I came directly to the headquarter with my CV and letter of motivation. This is how my amazing Freeletics adventure started.”

Journey to Freeletics

In December 2017, Sylvain started as a Customer Engagement Specialist in the CE team and immediately felt a strong connection with the company and team. Even more, working in such an international environment was something completely new and exciting for him. Never before did Sylvain have the chance to meet and become friends with so many people from all over the world. “This is what gave me the motivation to continue at the company and continuously ask for more responsibilities. I also really love the Freeletics app and have been using it without interruption since I started working here.” Flash forward to 2 years later, Sylvain was promoted to the position of Customer Success Manager, where he started to take on even more projects and responsibilities. “When I started working at Freeletics, I was expecting to work with a nice team, but I never thought that it could bring so much growth into my life, both personally and professionally.”

Looking Ahead

Sylvain is looking forward to seeing how his team and the product continue to expand in the future. “As a person, I always have the need to learn and evolve. I’m truly convinced that our daily job is changing the lives of people around the world and this is what gives me the power and the energy to invest myself in the company even more. The relationship I have with Freeletics works on both sides and this is what makes it work long-term.” In the future, Sylvain is looking forward to improving the relationship with Freeletics users from all over the world and inspiring them to become a greater version of themselves. We are thrilled to have him along for the ride and can‘t wait to see his footprint on the product in the future.
