Meet our new Brand Content Specialist, Nick. Nick has been with Freeletics since 2018 and today holds a new position in the Brand Marketing team. We sat down with him to discuss his recent career change and what the process was like. Read his insights below.

Introduce yourself, what is your name, where are you from:

My name is Nick and I’m from Michigan, USA.

When did you start working at Freeletics and what role did you start in?

I first started working at Freeletics in July of 2018 as a Customer Engagement Specialist for the English language.

What made you want to change positions? Was there a moment where you knew you wanted to make the switch?

I enjoyed my time working with the Customer Engagement team over the past 2 years. It was an awesome feeling to be able to help our English speaking users on a personal level and increase their happiness with our training program. However, I knew that I wanted to use my personal trainer qualifications to reach even more people. This prompted me to make a change. The first step was openly discussing this idea with my manager to see if there was an opportunity to pivot to another department.

When the Brand Marketing team approached my manager, she immediately let me know and was very helpful and supportive of my decision to change departments.

What does the career development process look like at Freeletics?

Freeletics offers a personal development allowance for every employee that can be used for courses and certifications to help them grow. With my allowance, for example, I was able to get my Personal Trainer Certification. There are also company wide Compensation Committees every 6 months which is an opportunity for you to be considered for a promotion or salary increase. My promotion from CE Agent to Brand Content Specialist was a direct result of my Development Talk with my manager and then the Compensation Committee this past May.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to make a move within their company?

I would encourage them to talk with different people in the new department and ask what they like about their job, what their day-to-day tasks are and any big picture initiatives they are working on. The easiest way to explore a career move is to be curious about other departments and learn as much as you can from your peers. I would also advise them to be open with their direct manager and discuss possible pathways to make their goals happen.

How does Freeletics prioritize the needs of its employees? Do you think it is harder to pivot in other companies?

While I can't speak to how other companies invest in the career development of their employees, I can say that at Freeletics there is a flat hierarchy. This means that you are free to create, develop, and grow within the company no matter if you are an intern or a C-Level executive. For me, this fact alone makes Freeletics stand out. I think the leaders within Freeletics take career development very seriously and really strive to nurture the talents and strength of each individual person. It’s a great feeling to be working in this kind of environment.
