Tomorrow is the 73rd birthday of Indonesia and it’s a perfect time to reflect on what we’ve done in these past years for our nation. As we did reflect about our work this past year, we recalled the research that Lembaga Demografi FEB UI and GO-JEK conducted about the socio-economic impact of GO-JEK’s app in Indonesia.

One of the results from the survey showed that GO-JEK estimated to contribute Rp 9.9 trillion or US$720.72 million annually to Indonesian economy through the income of GO-JEK driver partners and SME partners.

But, what does it truly mean for Indonesia- or for the world? Let’s go back to 2015, when the United Nation adopted 17 goals as part of a global plan, called as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to combat the world’s biggest problems.

We are glad to discover that GO-JEK has actively supported Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure in Indonesia through its partners and consumers.

Here are some things we should be proud of but also a reminder for us to always continue in creating impact in Indonesia and abroad.

1. GO-JEK and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Since 2010 until present, GO-JEK has approximately 1 million driver partners across Indonesia; 77% of them are on their productive years, which are between 20–39 years old 85% of them are high school graduates, which is the highest unemployment group in the labor force, based on education level in Indonesia.

The average income of our driver partners is Rp3,31 million (US$ 212,14) and it’s higher than the average of minimum wage in 9 surveyed cities, which is Rp2,80 million (US$191,51).

There were 52% GO-JEK driver partners felt that they have benefited from building business partnership with GO-JEK and 86% of them were also satisfied with their current income.

GO-JEK has also built partnerships with thousands of SMEs across Indonesia which 76% of them didn’t offer delivery services prior to partnering with GO-JEK and 82% of them experienced an increase in transaction volume after partnering with GO-JEK. Through GO-FOOD service, GO-JEK is committed to open market access, adoption of tech, and increase in SME partners’ business assets.

2. GO-JEK and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being

In 2016, GO-JEK launched the Swadaya Program, which provides our driver partners the access to some welfare programs such as insurance, low-cost credit packages, and education plan savings.

90% of our driver partners felt an improvement in their quality of life after joining GO-JEK. The flexibility of their working hours is the most cited benefit of being a driver partner while almost 30% of them admitted that they have more free time for their families.

3. GO-JEK and Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

As an innovation to give our society a better access for commuting, GO-RIDE has actively operated in approximately 80 cities across Indonesia and as part of GO-JEK international expansion strategy, GO-RIDE has expanded its service in Vietnam and will be available on Thailand, Singapore, and Philippines as well.

We hope to replicate the impact that consumers have seen in Indonesia in new markets, contributing to SDG 9, by striving for similar customer satisfaction and security levels as we have seen at home.

While we are beyond glad to know the impact of our services, we realize that this is really just the beginning. Our mission doesn’t stop here and we are committed to improve the impact to create a more sustainable society.
