Kelvin Gani, Moka’s General Manager of Product, shares his story on how his team is working behind the scene to bring Moka as a business ecosystem for everyone.

Kelvin Gani, Moka’s GM of Product

Moka was established in 2014 and we are growing fast in empowering businesses to better sell and grow. We gradually evolve into something bigger every year. Right now, Moka is beyond POS. Thanks to Moka’s Product Team, now we have five products — Moka POS, Moka Pay, Moka Connect, Moka Capital, and Moka Fresh.

Moka Products

Let’s start with Moka POS, a solution we brought for businesses to help them run their business efficiently and effectively. Through our Point of Sale, business owners can oversee their revenues, inventories, ingredients, customers, payments, and employees in real-time. On top of that, we combine best practices of the industry and build it within our POS solution.

Then, we have Moka Pay. The fast growth of mobile payments forces businesses to keep up with the trend. Moka Pay is our solution to help businesses accept most mobile payments easily with just one app and one device. And the good thing is, businesses can get Moka Pay for free!

We understand that there are many scenarios that businesses have. Thus we are opening Moka Connect, our open platform solution to let any partner integrate with Moka to provide better services to businesses. By giving better services means, our partners can give faster response and manage merchant’s request easier.

To help our merchants in growing their business faster, we offer Moka Capital, an easy and simple way for our merchants to get working capital loans online. Through this product, merchants can get loans up to IDR 2 billion to support their growth. To secure it all, we partnered with the most secure funding platforms strictly monitored by OJK.

Last but not least, Moka Fresh. This is our latest solution in catering freshest ingredients for merchants. Our Moka Fresh merchants can purchase rice, noodles, milk and other ingredients, as well as goods that support their operations such as fridge, coffee maker, etc.

The journey

When Kelvin first started the product team 16 months ago, he brought a fresh start by bringing Pods Alignment to Moka. As confusing as it sounds, Pods Alignment is a cross-functional team who can work autonomously with little dependency on other Pods.

Each Pod handles a product that has its independent purpose and goals derived from Moka’s overall product goals. Every Pod is led by a product manager who collaborates with engineers, QAs, and UI/UX to build solutions for our merchants. The process to build a solution is done on a 2-week sprint and regular release cycles. This alignment, said Kelvin, gives Moka a big advantage that is aligned with our culture in Moving Fast to develop many products at a time.

To deliver the best experience to our merchants, prioritization is always the biggest challenge in creating products. Ideas are easy, but selecting the best idea for the current product, company, and market situation is really hard. We are honing our prioritization skills by visiting and talking to merchants, listening to customers complaints, observing businesses, learning about the market, reading books, articles, news and keeping an open mind.

We believe that product is more than just an app. It includes the end-to-end merchant’s experience. Hence, every product solution is created by utilizing the best technology, sales, marketing, and operational processes.

We work with value

At Moka, we always believe in values. For Kelvin, the value that he upholds and applies the most is Take Ownership and Outcomes.

“We, as Product Manager has to have a high sense of ownership of the product. We have to be the mini CEO, which implies that we need to ensure the outcome as well, regardless of what hats to wear.”

As Product Manager, Kelvin is not only building features. He needs to ensure that the products built will bring the best outcomes for both the company and the customer. The team has a sense of ownership to do whatever it takes to make the product successful.

“No matter what field you are working, as designer, copywriter, part-time engineer, quality assurance, support, or anything, every job matters to the overall product.”

How Moka believes in values matters so much to the company as a whole. Values are what make Moka, Moka. How about you? What values do you believe in life?
