Our Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s) are a core part of our culture at Motive. We embrace diversity and consider it a critical business priority, as it drives innovation and improves an organization’s ability to adapt to rapid change. In line with our core values of unlocking potential and building trust, we insist on equity and inclusion from our teammates to ensure all voices are heard.

As our employee resource groups (ERGs) have grown, so has the support for these networks! This month, during Women’s History Month, we are excited to hear from Virginia Nagy, Women@Motive’s ERG Group Chair, to learn more about their mission, purpose and vision.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

This month offers the opportunity to gain knowledge around our great leaders — the women activists and pioneers who passionately worked to ensure that we are heard and recognized in our communities. Women throughout the world have established the foundation of our rights. It is our mission to continue learning and advocating for our voice so that future generations can celebrate the countless women who have fought timelessly for equality, justice and opportunity.

What’s Women@Motive’s mission?

Our mission is to inspire professional and social growth through our community at Motive. We do this by amplifying women’s voices, promoting advocacy for gender equality and fostering mentorship. Together we open new opportunities and empower women to become remarkable leaders.

What are this year’s goals for Woman@Motive?

  1. Increase membership and engagement through efforts tied to Women’s History Month and other virtual events throughout the year.
  2. Provide training and development to women in our Career Mentorship Program and leverage education platforms for building new skills.
  3. Establish an Executive Sponsor and Committee Board of Officers for the ERG to promote monthly events.
  4. Continue to partner with our DEI, Recruiting and Marketing departments on brand initiatives and ERG awareness.

How has Motive supported the ERG?

Motive has sponsored various events in the community, including the Bold + Brilliant TED Women’s Conference, Women Impact Tech, Women Who Code, and more.

During Women’s History Month, Motive strives to host a handful of events intended to amplify women’s voices, promote advocacy for gender equality and foster mentorship. These events include virtual meet-ups, networking lunches/dinners, talent shows, mindset workshops, fireside chats and discussion panels. Throughout the year, we plan on hosting multiple virtual and in-person gatherings, offering mentorship panels and partnering with organizations to empower women.

What role do you see Women@Motive having at Motive? Why are they important?

Inspiring women to accelerate both personally and professionally has always been a passion of mine. After joining Motive in March 2019, I was introduced to the Women@Motive ERG. Quickly after meeting these remarkable women, I was inspired and driven to join the committee as its Community and Connections Chair. Throughout the years of hosting multiple meet-ups and collaborating cross-functionally in the organization, it’s the synergy shared amongst Motive’s women that influences me to become my next-level self and lead the ERG.

How often does the ERG meet? What do these meetings look like?

We meet virtually each month, discussing various topics and initiatives to drive brand awareness. Our goal is to meet in person each quarter.

What advice do you have for women in tech?

  • Advocate for your career and never stop learning!
  • Build your own personal board of directors. Mentorship is key!
  • Be confident in your skills and embrace your true self.
  • You are the master of your craft and should show up as yourself.
  • Show off your accomplishments.
  • Find the positive value in every experience and learn from your failures.
  • Value yourself and strive for a work/life balance to avoid burnout.

What advice do you have for women that may not feel like they have a seat at the table?

I’ve always said, “You are either at the table or on the menu. Take a seat! If there isn’t a seat, make your own.”

Women offer unique perspectives to meet challenges, solve problems and design new platforms. Remember that your voice matters, so amplify it! You do not have to be the loudest person in the room, but be prepared, show up and share your light.

What role do you see Women@Motive having at Motive? Why are they important?

Our calendars are filled with obligations tied to our jobs, and during the day-to-day hustle it’s easy to forget to check our energy gauge. ERG’s, such as Women@Motive, are here to fuel your energy through community, outreach and inclusion. ERG’s provide connection to members across multiple departments to ensure diversity in operations, reinforce core values and social impact.

Motive is committed to building an inclusive workplace for women in tech and part of that commitment is ensuring that employees feel a sense of belonging. Employee resource groups (ERG’s) like Women@Motive play a key role in that commitment. These groups, led by employees and supported by Motive, offer a variety of opportunities including professional development, networking and community involvement.
