Juneteenth is a day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. It was on June 19th, 1865, that the Union soldiers, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were free. In recognition of this important milestone, Motive has extended Monday, June 20th as a holiday for employees following the US calendar.

This Juneteenth, we invited our team to spend time reflecting on our joint history, our role in the present, and what we want for our future. Here are a few different ways we’re celebrating internally:

  1. Joining Melanin@Motive to learn, educate and reflect.
  2. Learn and reflect: Reading provided materials on Juneteenth created by our ERG, Melanin@Motive to learn the history and importance of this day and time in history.
  3. Juneteenth Metaverse celebration on June 17th! Melanin@Motive has presented a metaverse celebration that included; networking with peers, a scavenger hunt with prizes, Black history trivia, and more!
