Identifying new business lines to support our ever-growing customer base is paramount to our success at Motive. In April 2022, we launched our Motive Card and spend management application.

The Motive Card is a zero-fee corporate card that’s deeply integrated with the Motive Automated Operations Platform, helping customers address all aspects of their business — from tracking to safety to spend management — all in one place.

We are the first and only fleet management vendor to offer an integrated spend management solution to our customers. We recently sat down with Justin Alsamarrai, Director, Commercial Sales Motive Cards, to learn more about the Motive Cards team.

What’s something your team recently accomplished that you’re proud of?

In Q4 ’22 and Q1 ’23, as a team, we stood up the upmarket-dedicated Motive Card Sales team across Motive’s Commercial, Mid-Market and Enterprise Sales teams. This was a collective effort that involved the contribution of several of our sales leaders.

What’s the team’s growth plans? What roles are you looking to add to your department?

We’re focused on building out our Commercial Card Sales motion and looking to hire several US-based Account Executives. We are excited to welcome sales professionals with a background in the payments space and individuals who thrive in a startup environment. What does someone’s growth path look like on the Motive Card Sales team?

The future is bright for our Motive Card Sales team members. The members of our Card Sales team grow in their skills and job performance, and therefore advance their individual careers at an accelerated pace as the team grows. Motive has transparent career paths and we provide clear, consistent definitions of job levels and requirements for promotions. In order to track individual growth, we utilize our 360 Goal Tracker tool that helps employees and managers stay aligned on performance expectations and development goals.

Our Commercial Card team offers new career growth opportunities to our SMB Account Executives. As reps in SMB master their skills, they have the ability to work with larger, more complex deals when joining the Commercial Card team.

For the US-based candidates, this offers an exciting and unique opportunity for individuals with respect to payments and/or fleet cards. It gives them the chance to not only help customers find the best fleet card solution, but also help them recognize the benefits of an integrated, all-in-one solution that combines fleet and spend management under one roof.

How many people make up your team? What are the different segments?

We are a fully remote team that’s made up of Account Executives, a frontline Manager and our Director of Card Sales. We are currently sub-segmented into Commercial Card Sales, Mid-Market and Enterprise. Each sales professional works in an overlay motion, working as trusted Card advisors to both our customers and the core sales team (the folks that sell our Vehicle gateways, Dashcams, Asset Gateways etc.).

How would you define your team culture?

The team’s motto is “the customer always comes first.” What’s unique about the Motive Card Sales team is that we’re a new segment of the business. Although we take our work seriously, we have a team goal of being 1% better than we were the day before!
