Welcome to this month’s Team Spotlight, where we spotlight our Quality Assurance team. In this feature, we’ll explore their essential role in maintaining our products’ quality and reliability — with insights from Nandini Srinivasan, VP of Quality Assurance.

Say hello to Nandini and some of her teammates!

Tell us what the Quality Assurance (QA) team does here at Motive.

The QA team is responsible for understanding the complete work of the product. We design test scripts that help test the product to ensure it works to defined and customer-expected specifications. These tests include automated test scripts, manual tests, and end-to-end tests that cover our entire workflow.

Explain why this work is crucial for Motive’s success.

Quality engineering is integral to product development, and no company can succeed without high standards of quality and reliability, especially at scale. Motive prides itself on high accuracy, availability, and customer satisfaction, which can only be attained through rigorous testing and validation.

Tell us about a project your team recently worked on that you’re proud of.

Every time Motive releases a product, you can be sure the QA team has a hand in it. Overall, we are very proud of the shift towards establishing ourselves as a world-class Quality Engineering team.

Connecting with the global QA team.

What experience and skill set are you looking to bring to your department? How are you growing team members on the team?

All Motive QA engineers must be technically savvy in scripting languages. We made a conscientious shift about two years ago to pivot towards a test automation team. We continue to do that by running tracks where we uplevel our QA engineers, providing them with learning paths and curated online learning geared towards test automation and incentivizing them to complete these courses. I am happy to inform you that most of our QA engineers are now automation literate.

Who makes up the QA team and what are their different roles and responsibilities?

The QA team at Motive is 100 people strong and is further split into Software and Embedded. We aim to ensure that every single roll-out follows the expectations set by our wider engineering team. There are lots of interesting roles on our team — if QA is your expertise, we encourage you to check them out!

How is your team championing diversity, equity, and inclusion at Motive?

Our team is over 40% women in all levels and leadership structures. This kind of representation allows us to have diverse opinions at every decision-making stage and fosters a culture where women are fundamental pillars of the team.

How would you define your team’s culture?

Our team culture is collaborative, people-centric, highly encouraging innovation, and embodies all of Motive’s core values. We’re deeply embedded in the development lifecycle, partnering diligently with all stakeholders.

What are some exciting projects you’ll be working on over the next 12 months?

The upcoming months bring excitement and a strong desire to overcome challenges. We will help roll out exciting products in the near future, and we’ll strongly be pivoting towards becoming an automation-first team.
