Meeting Laura Milanez is like shaking hands with a friendly hurricane. You get swept up in her outgoing, curious, and exuberant energy. That very combination is what makes her such an amazing teammate, partner to our customers, and Sift champion.
Thankfully, Laura says that magnetism pulls both ways. “The main thing that attracted me about Sift was the culture. I previously had no experience with startups. When I came here, everyone was so friendly and I felt welcomed and ready to take on a huge learning opportunity. I was so excited dive right into this organization where things are always changing, where I’d learn, and where I would be supported.”
Laura’s readiness to jump into the work at Sift reflects the roll-up-your-sleeves attitude that propelled her to not only leave her native Brazil for Singapore at 13, but also to venture to the States for college and begin playing touch rugby. She threw herself into the world of startups and tried on various hats across Sift, always asking questions, devouring knowledge, and finding new ways to help the company and its customers. With great humor and ferocity, Laura sought mentors and opportunities that would not only further her growth, but also support her passions.
Foremost among loves is her passion for touch rugby, with Laura balancing a full-time job as a Solutions Engineer with competing on an international scale. Preparing for the Touch Rugby World Cup (May 2019 in Malaysia) required hours and hours of training and travel. “Thankfully, I was trusted to get my work done and build in a strategy that would keep my customers happy but also allow me to follow my dreams and compete with the US team at the World Cup. my manager is incredibly understanding and I worked with my colleagues to build a back-up plan for my time off.”
Laura’s energy and passion keep her team at her back and Sift is proud to support such an amazing Solutions engineer. And what does that badass say about returning post-World Cup to the office? “I miss Sift when I travel. I love coming into the office, and I look forward to the work because, just like my rugby team, I know my Sifties have my back.”
