AI Center as the Key to an Inclusive Economy
Tokopedia-UI AI center to drive new solutions to problems happening in the society and industry.
Chasing the dream
Artificial Intelligence or AI is an area of computer science that can be understood as achieving intelligence through the learning of machines. AI makes it possible for the machine to learn from experiences, adapt to new input and carry out tasks like a human. Utilizing this technology, machine can be trained to process large amount of data and analyse the patterns out of this data.
“Imagine a time when you can expand your business no matter where you are, while your customers can receive the good with consistent same-day delivery service no matter where in Indonesia they live in,” said William Tanuwijaya.
AI will be the key in helping us achieve this dream: to democratize commerce through technology by providing better insights, recommendations, tool sets and intelligent to the whole ecosystem including companies, merchants, logistic chains, financial institutions and customers. Both artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will allow us to dream big and initiate better ways to solve the hardest commerce issues and complex problems in Indonesia such as traffic, flooding, disaster, food shortage.
Tokopedia and inclusive economy
The opening of Tokopedia-UI AI Center of Excellence is the collaboration between Tokopedia and Universitas Indonesia in bridging the whole Indonesia together. It is the first AI development center in Indonesia that utilizes the deep learning technology from NVIDIA, NVIDIA® DGX-1. This initiative is taken to encourage academics and researchers to use technology in solving real-life issues that occur in the society and industry. It is also expected to expose students to advanced technological research, stimulate various technology-based studies and provide data analytics supported by AI on issues and potentials that can have a direct impact on the community, government and industry.
According to Foster consulting’s research, Indonesia ranks №1 (65%) in Asia pacific for AI implementation by businesses, followed by China (63%) and India (62%), suggesting that the AI field is in high demand and more AI experts are needed in the industry. The initial research topics of the AI center will focus on digital payment, merchant analytics and buyer recommendation system, logistics, urban mobility, healthcare, maritime technology, fraud detection and prevention and public services. We are expanding our reach to other universities in joining our bandwagon and helping to develop the technology for a better Indonesia.
