Celebrating Culinary Excellence: Tokopedia’s Terbukti Nyam 2023 Event Honors Local Food and Beverage Sellers
In celebration of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day, Tokopedia proudly presented the “Terbukti Nyam 2023” awards, a heartwarming celebration dedicated to the talented food and beverage merchants who bring joy to millions across Indonesia.
The event, held at Tokopedia Tower on 11 August 2023, showcased the stories, flavors, and passion of 13 culinary entrepreneurs who have turned their love for food into thriving businesses, and who call Tokopedia their home.
Tokopedia’s commitment to supporting local businesses started with the launch of Tokopedia’s e-commerce platform in 2009. Now, of the 14 million sellers on our platform, almost 100% are first-time entrepreneurs.
Terbukti Nyam 2023 Awards
Welcomed by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry’s Director of Small and Medium Food and Beverages, Furniture, and Building Materials, Drs. Yedi Sabaryadi, and Tokopedia’s Vice President of Physical Goods, David Kartono, Terbukti NYAM! 2023 was hosted to promote Indonesian-made food and beverages and bring them to the forefront of public awareness.
As such, the best food or beverage products were selected to represent 13 categories: Best Ground Coffee, Best Dessert, Most Delicious Bakery, Most Favorite Non-Coffee Drink, Most Demanded Snack, Most Delicious Noodles, Hottest Sambal, Best Coffee, Viral Market Snacks, Most Addictive Cookies, Most Phenomenal International Culinary, Legendary Archipelago Culinary, and Healthy Dishes of Choice.
The merchants who won were not selected randomly; they were determined based on criteria such as an increase in sales on Tokopedia, consistency in including relevant, concise, and clear product descriptions and photos, increasing product popularity, and community voting, which happened on 3–21 July 2023.
Thirteen Winners
Among the 13 remarkable winners of the Terbukti Nyam 2023 awards, three had stories that showed a unique blend of determination, innovation, and passion. Their journeys were nothing short of inspiring, so let’s delve into the personal journeys of these exceptional winners!
Most Viral Market Snack: Pisang Goreng Madu Bu Nanik
In 2007, Nanik Soelistiowati embarked on a venture that would eventually give rise to Pisang Goreng Madu Bu Nanik — a fried banana business with a sweet twist. However, her entrepreneurial journey has deeper origins. In 1994, prompted by her husband’s struggling garment export business, she ventured into the field of catering on a small scale. As her catering business grew, servicing up to seven hotels each day, she noticed an excess of ripe leftover bananas that were unfit for hotel use.
Determined to minimize waste, she decided to repurpose these bananas into a popular local treat: fried banana or pisang goreng. However, considering her mother’s battle with diabetes at the time, she made the decision to swap out conventional sugar for the natural sweetness of honey. This not only introduced a fresh and delightful flavor but also brought to life the distinctive appearance that Pisang Goreng Bu Nanik is now renowned for, a unique nearly-burned look. Pisang Goreng Bu Nanik’s journey is the perfect example of clever problem-solving, compassion, and culinary creativity that form the foundation of her thriving business.
Most Favorite Non-Coffee Drink: Homelab Powder Matcha
Homelab, a healthy food business, was founded with the vision of offering a range of bird’s nest drinks. This homemade creation, driven by personal passion and supported by a strong social media presence, quickly garnered positive feedback from customers and scaled within months. Now, Homelab is known for its powdered drinks in matcha, hojicha, and chocolate flavors, targeting customers who enjoy recreating cafe-like experiences at home.
Given the many health benefits attributed to matcha, including its notable antioxidant levels, caffeine content comparable to that of coffee, and capacity to enhance focus and memory, it’s no surprise that this flavor has gained popularity as a preferred alternative to coffee drinks.
Most Addictive Cookies: Melts Indonesia
Plant-based snack innovator Melts is dedicated to offering nutritious and guilt-free snack options suitable for the everyday customer. Its dark chocolate cookies are a customer favorite, which can be attributed to the mood-enhancing and stress-reducing properties of dark chocolate (because of its serotonin content), as well as the snack’s low sugar content and plant-based composition, which enhances its nutritional profile. Not only does the snack look good from the outside with its unique packaging, but its flavor makes it the most addictive choice of cookies!
Impact & Benefit For Winners
As winners of Terbukti NYAM! in 2023, merchants were given a placard as a token of appreciation, marketing capital in the form of TopAds credit (Tokopedia’s advertising feature) to boost their sales, the Terbukti NYAM! logo badge on their online shop to increase buyers’ trust in their brand, and opportunities to collaborate with content creators to make customers’ shopping experience more interactive with their brand.
