Tokopedia with Kampus Update shares advices for youth to maximize their potential in digital era.
On August 16th, 2018 Tokopedia and Kampus Update held an event named as KUTalk with the theme ‘Unlocking Your Potential in the Digital Age’. The talk show was attended by students from various national and international universities.
Digitalization has changed many aspects of our lives, including the skills needed to keep up with the digital era. The talk show encourages youth to use digital platforms for self-development and prepare themselves for their career path.
Three speakers from various backgrounds shared their stories about what is it like to work in the digital era. They are Yusin Liauw, HR Strategic Development Senior Lead at Tokopedia, Priscilla Anais, CEO Office Manager at Tokopedia, and Hana Hetty Manuela, Founder of Diberi Untuk Memberi Community.

Yusin Liauw, HR Strategic Development Senior Lead at Tokopedia said that internet simplifies life of our society, “In the digital era, we don’t need large amount of capital to start a business. Technology allows us to sell something digitally, or even work virtually. People are able to get anything they want easily, without worrying about distance and time.”
As the time goes by, the internet start to change our way of lives. The internet provides accessible knowledge to everyone, creating new opportunities for people, especially youth to develop themselves.
“The digital era will change our career path in the future. Be value-driven, not job-driven. Don’t just focus on pursuing a profession that may not exist in the future. Digitization will eliminate many professions, but will also create new professions,” said Priscilla, CEO Office Manager at Tokopedia.
Hana Hetty Manuela, the founder of Diberi Untuk Memberi, a community that helps young people to participate in voluntary activities, feels the benefits of the digital platform for the community. “Social media really helped us to increase public awareness of a social issue and influence people to become volunteers or donors,” Hana explained.
Aside from being the founder of a social community, Hana whose an expert in social media also founded Hi-Wordsmith — a digital marketing agency.
During the event, the audience proactively asked for tips and advices on how to stay motivated in difficult situations. Moreover, speakers were also being asked about their past experience and advice on how to act professionally whilst working.
Johnson Leonardi, a participant from Biola University, Los Angeles, shared his opinion, “After finding information about this talk show on LinkedIn, I immediately registered. As a result, I gained the knowledge that I needed, about how youth can prepare themselves in a fast-growing industry.”
