Jake and I

You kiss our booboos when we fall

and cradle us so tight

you read us soothing stories before you say good night.

You wipe our tears and make us laugh and send us off to school.

You guide us through our youth with logic and your rules.

We fall sometimes but then get up, ready to fight back.

Whatever life’s course throws at us, we know you have our backs.

We strive, we fail, we always try again, because that’s what you taught us,

so we’re winners in the end.

Life is never simple; it’s a complicated ride

but I am truly thankful to have you by my side.
