I’m back!

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been busy with client work and took a short trip to Italy with my wife.

We visited Rome, Vatican City, Florence, Venice, and Milan walking over 100,000 steps and eating all the good stuff Italy has to offer.

While it was nice to visit some of the most impressive and historically rich places in the world, the growing mass tourism didn’t make it as attractive as I imagined.

Welcome to another edition of Life Designed where I share the insights and resources to help you live better.

Camper Retreat in Portugal

My friend can’t make it and there’s a great opportunity to join an amazing 11-day road trip with spirited entrepreneurs in Portugal. I would join myself if I didn’t have other plans.

Check it out if it fits well with your plans.

Habits and Routines of Entrepreneur and Writer Jonny Miller

Meet Jonny Miller, in short, a very curious human. He’s living to the full, experimenting with life and openly sharing his experiences and thoughts with the world.

One of the biggest insights for me has been to tune into how my body is feeling first — to rest if I need rest, post-pone the gym if I’m sore rather than push through (which often leads to sickness/injury!)

Patrick Collison, the co-founder and CEO of Stripe shares questions he finds interesting with some pointers and answers. Great food for thought.

What does religion cause?

Why are programming environments still so primitive?

Why is there no canon for life’s most important questions?

Why are so many things so much nicer in Switzerland and Japan?

Make Your Own Rules

It’s easy to forget that no one knows what they are doing. Venkatesh Rao offers a practical framework to help you create your own rules to navigate through life. It’s a dense read.

In the short term, other people’s rules can get you through a rough patch. In the medium term, you have to at least adapt them to your own life. But in the long term, only making your own rules works.

The Unexpected Consequences of “Pretiring” at 27 Years Old

I met Chris though this newsletter and we connected while he was living nearby in Valencia. In this article, he shares his “pretiring” experience and lifestyle choices that allow him to travel the world and write.

Being tight with my money (friends would say “cheap”) allowed me to pretire in the first place, but I had to tighten up a couple more notches to keep my pretirement going indefinitely.

Somewhat creepy faces of fake people you can use for your prototypes or any other purposes. They ask for a link back though.

Food for Thought

“A great work ethic isn’t about working whenever you’re called upon. It’s about doing what you say you’re going to do, putting in a fair day’s work, respecting the work, respecting the customer, respecting coworkers, not wasting time, not creating unnecessary work for other people, and not being a bottleneck. Work ethic is about being a fundamentally good person that others can count on and enjoy working with.” — Jason Fried

“When I donate money to a beggar, am I not reacting to the unpleasant sensations that the sight of the beggar causes me to feel? Do I really care about the beggar, or do I simply want to feel better myself?” — Yuval Noah Harari
