A Very Special Episode of I Am Cait

TF kind of album release party was this?

Internets,

What was Yeezy Season 3? I don’t mean that in the philosophical sense of asking what something was, I mean literally.

It had been announced weeks ago that the new Kanye West album, first called Swish, then called Waves, now called the Life of Pablo (TF?), would be released yesterday, February 11th. I took a look at the Yeezy Season 3 hashtag last night on Twitter, thinking I might have to write about it (and also because I’m interested in fashion), only to be bombarded by pictures of the Kardashian family and Vines recorded at some fashion show/album release party at Madison Square Garden.

This raised a number of interesting questions, including the following:

Is the Life of Pablo an actual album that was released?

It’s not on Spotify, which means I might never hear it. I checked the wiki and, as I’m writing this, it says that the Life of Pablo has been sold to Martin Shkreli, but that can’t be true, right? If he had the means, I wouldn’t put it past Shkreli to pull some shit like that, but right now he’s got a case pending. It seems like all the congressmen at his hearing were aware of, and upset about, what he did with the Wu-Tang album. He’s got enough problems.

Let it be known: Congress fuxwit Wu-Tang.

The wiki didn’t say anything about how one would go about hearing or maybe even buying the Life of Pablo. Was it sold at that event yesterday? It would seem like a waste, if it wasn’t. Is it a Tidal exclusive? Yeezy Season 3 was livestreamed on Tidal. If it’s a Tidal exclusive, I’d imagine very few people will hear it, since hardly anyone has Tidal, and I doubt they’re gonna sign up to hear a 2016 Kanye West album.

If whatever happened yesterday is considered an actual release, Kanye could be headed for an embarrassing first week sales figure, not unlike what happened to Rihanna, who only sold 460 copies of Anti its first day out.

Is Yeezy or whatever it’s called an actual clothing line sold in stores?

Obviously no one’s about to buy the post-apocalyptic gay pajamas featured in fashion shows like this one and the one where he premiered “All Day.” But I think the idea behind fashion shows is that they show off a lot of weird shit no one could wear anyway because unfortunately very few women have bodies like that these days, and then there’s the actual consumer-facing bullshit that’s produced in mass quantities through licensing deals with manufacturers in third world countries.

Clothing lines make their money from the latter; the former is just to get your name in the paper. Kanye West has his name in the paper. The question now is, how does he intend to capitalize on it? Or does he even give a shit? He’s married to Kim Kardashian, at least for the time being. She’s making over $50 million a year from, among other things (including the film she made with Ray J, lest we forget), a video game that dupes children into making in-app purchases.

Otherwise, I’m at a loss for how he plans to make money from this or what the purpose of any of this was. Maybe Kris Jenner struck a deal to have it all filmed for a special hour-long episode of I Am Cait.

Kanye stans, set your DVRs.

Take it easy on yourself,

Bol
